Benedict Cumberbatch is going to play Alan Turing in a movie. I’m not sure how to feel about this. He’s an excellent actor but he looks really weird as Turing.
The real Alan Turing:
Um … nailed the hairdo?

Several weeks ago, I started to notice these cute little clown cars parked in my neighborhood:
They’re from Car2Go, a company that offers something like a self-serve taxi service. You hop into one of these cars, wherever you find one parked, and drive it to wherever you want in St. Paul. You pay 38 cents per minute of use. That’s really cool.
The Twin Cities now have a public transit system that’s fit for the twenty-first century. Last week, the Green Line went online, a light rail system that connects the downtowns of Minneapolis and Saint Paul. Even though it was raining, there were crowds of celebrators there to take the free trip on the first day.
Last week, Vu and I went to Minneapolis’s 40th annual May Day Parade. Organized by the In the Heart of the Beast Puppet Theater, the parade’s made out of puppet shows, paiper maché, and in the Free Speech section, anybody who has an axe to grind for a particular cause. They march down Bloomington Avenue until they reach Powderhorn Park for a festival.
Both of us had a blast.
It’s hard to see in these pics, but this was a really cool wire dragon.
If you ever wondered whether the Twin Cities were a left-leaning area, now you know.
Either these people have never seen Dr. Strangelove or Spaceballs, or they just don’t care.
… I have no idea.
These folks were in favor of solar power.
Here you can see the muffin boy, who I think was supposed to be a mushroom.
May poles.
I’m not sure who the worm dude is, but in the background you can see a child being a lichen.
These Aztec dancers were in favor of reuniting families across the U.S.-Mexican border.
They wanted to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour. Good luck with that.
The Green Party
Yup.
Did I mention it’s a left-leaning city?
March is long past, but I wanted to point out another Kickstarter campaign that deserves people’s attention.
Northern Spark is an all-night arts festival in Minneapolis and Saint Paul, Minnesota. I had the pleasure of going to the 2011 festival, and it was a blast. There’s everything there: independent films, readings, art installations, plays. Not to mention it’s a great way to show off one’s Minnesota pride.
